Bio
Aeyliya Husain is an award winning documentary filmmaker whose work focuses on issues of representation, images of war and their interpretation, women, and photography. She has exhibited at festivals both nationally and internationally including, Tribeca Film Festival, for her film ‘Shooting War’, San Francisco Docfest, Glasgow Short Film Festival and São Paulo Film Festival. Her previous film, ‘Daughters of the Revolution’ has been broadcast on BBC, and other works have been shown on CBC, RSI (Swiss Public TV), SBS and France 4. In addition to her film work, Aeyliya has written non-fiction scripts for a number of series that have aired on Discovery Canada & US, History Television, National Geographic US, CBC, and many others. She has written articles on female combat soldiers, and on the Arctic, which have been published in VICEmedia and Foreign Affairs. Her work has been supported by production grants from the National Film Board of Canada, Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council and VICE media.
Aeyliya holds an MFA in Film Production from York University (Toronto, Canada) and a BA from the University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Canada).
