Bio
Charlie Hidalgo is a Colombian trans man, award-winning producer, writer and director, graduated from the Canadian Film Centre’s Producers’ Lab. After producing Endemol Andino’s Big Brother Pacific, and soccer transmissions for Fox Sports across South America, Charlie relocated to Toronto in order to have the freedom to explore his identity and pursue a career in film. The autobiographical screenplay for Charlie’s upcoming feature debut HONOR THY MOTHER, was described as “A sophisticated exploration of the realities of abuse and a fearless inspection of attraction and intimacy” and was awarded the Grand Prize Award at the Canadian Film Festival’s Harold Greenberg Script Competition. Their directorial debut BATHROOM RULES, was acquired by the CBC and Shoreline Entertainment for domestic and worldwide distribution respectively. Charlie’s producing credits include the award-winning short films THE THINGS YOU THINK I’M THINKING (SXSW, Slamdance) and YOUR MOTHER AND I (TIFF, BFI London). When not making films, Charlie is curating provocative content for Slamdance, Tribeca, Cucalorus and Athena Film Festivals. Charlie has programmed for and serve on the jury of the leading LGBTQ film festivals. Charlie is currently in development with HER SHOES, an autobiographical short film, as well as finishing up his feature debut script.
